The Samsung Galaxy S – The Perfect Smartphone
The Samsung Galaxy S signals the firms first major attempt at a high specification smartphone, and judging by what we have seen so far the model looks set to be a sure fir success.
The Galaxy S is obviously aimed at infiltrating the iPhone market, the handset itself is the most similar looking to Apples design that we have seen, however the Samsung model does boast some big advantages. The first of these is the excellent quality screen that the phone sports. In all fairness, the screen is perhaps the most impressive we have encountered, boasting a mammoth 480 x 800 pixel resolution and over 16 million colours. The screen uses cutting edge Super AMOLED technology to achieve superb results. This works by actually integrating the sheet that detects touch into the actual display rather than using two separate pieces. This results in a thinner screen which works much more effectively in outside conditions. The displays size also impresses at a huge 4 inches. An accelerometer chip performs all of the auto rotate functions, whilst a clever proximity sensor shuts the screen of when the handset is held to your face. Overall the handset measures 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9mm and weighs 119 grammes. As you can see from these figures, the phone is very slimline and the weight is also very lightweight for a handset of this specification.
Media features are impressive on the new Samsung Galaxy S. The phones bulit in camera can shoot images in the industry standard 5 mega pixels. A handful of features are also available to aide and improve your photographs. Autofocus ensures your snap is never blurred, whilst the smile detection feature cleverly picks up on a persons smile when taking photographs of people. The geo tagging facility also stores information of the location where the picture was taken, handy when looking back over your gallery once you have taken a large number of photographs. The Galaxy S can record video footage in High Definition, shooting at 720P resolution with an impressive frame rate of 30 frames per second. For video calling, a secondary camera is also installed at the front of the handest which films at VGA quality. A very nice audio player is also featured on the phone which handles a multitude of audio formats and benefits from the 3.5mm headphone socket allowing a huge range of headphone to be used with the phone.
