Omega Watches and Sport

Sports timekeeping has been part of Omega’s story for more than 100 years. Omega put themselves at the service of men and women who show a constant determination to be the best at what they do. These men and women deserve their results to be flawlessly timed and recorded for future sporting generations and also to be displayed boldly. Omega has been responsible for the timekeeping of some the most prestigious sporting events the world has seen. This includes 24 Olympic Games and Omega has also developed equipment ensuring that technology keeps pace with improved performances.

In 1948 Omega helped to usher in the birth of modern sports timekeeping. Since 1948, times have changed considerably for both timekeepers and athletes. In 2012 London is hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games and this has special significance for Omega. It will have been 80 years since Omega first served as Olympic timekeeper at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games and it will also be the 25th time Omega has taken on this huge responsibility. The London Organising Committee and the people of London are committed to revitalising a whole section of the city and are using some of the most iconic venues available including Wembley Stadium, Lord’s Cricket Ground, Wimbledon and Greenwich Park. Any other city in the world would struggle to offer such a wonderful combination of contemporary and historic locations.

The year 1948 was important for Omega not just because of the Olympic timekeeping responsibility but also because Omega launched the Seamaster line and this line has been a huge part of the Omega watches that have been launched since. To honour the 2012 Olympic Games Omega has launched the Seamaster 1948 ‘London2012’ Limited Edition watch. This watch is based on the design of the very first Seamaster and is just as stylish as it was more than sixty years ago. This Omega watch is embossed with the vintage Omega symbol and is also embossed with the London 2012 Olympic Games logo. The watch is water resistant to 120 metres and features diamond-polished hour and minute hands and the seconds hand is blue steel.

Another Omega watch that has been created to commemorate the Games is the Seamaster Aqua Terra 44mm London Chronograph. It has been created in two configurations, one features a bicolour case that has been crafted using 18Kt red gold and stainless steel and has a stunning blue leather strap. The other configuration is made of stainless steel with a matching bracelet giving it a rugged look. These stunning Omega watches have been stamped with the “London 2012” Olympic emblem.

Omega’s Aqua Terra watches are some of the brands most popular watches and the London 2012 Olympic Games special editions of the Seamaster Aqua Terra collection are sure to cherished keepsakes for years and years to come.
