Crucially, the thruster had to be fired to alter course, and this couldn’t be done by computer. If this action wasn’t completed to within a fraction of a second, they would never make it home. To carry out this important timing, they had to use Lovell’s Omega Speedmaster. The burn was a success, and the crew returned home safely. It’s noted that all Cosmonauts in Russia have been given the Omega Speedmaster to use on all future missions.
Omega is a Swiss company who have been designing and manufacturing superior watches since the year 1848. The watches are now famously known around the globe.
With the watch being the first on the moon, Bond’s was changed to Omega in the spy movie Golden Eye. The watch was worn too by Bond actor Pierce Brosnan. The latest actor to play the role, Daniel Craig also wears a Seamaster. The special commemorative edition issued by Omega has all these versions in this issue.
