Porsche 911 GT3 – Successful Decade of Domination Already – Longing For More?
The car was initially displayed at Geneva Motor Show in the year 1999 before hitting the world market. The car was offered with an integrated dry sump flat six engine. Oil tank of this model was built externally. The original GT3 version produced up to 355 hp of power in comparison to its previous 996 version with 296 hp performance. Another notable feature of this model was the crankcase parting line on the crankshaft center-line.
The GT3 model also was offered with water jackets separately in each side of the crankcase to cool 3 cylinder bank of the engine. Moreover, water was pumped by means of a radiator for the whole engine processing. Hence, Porsche 911 GT3 car engine was considered similar to the water cooled engine of 962 model racing car. However, 911 GT3 model differs from 962 models due to its two cylinder heads along with each covering 3 cylinders unlike six individual cylinder heads in 962 model cars.
Porsche had designed the basic casting for crankcase in GT3 as similar to an air cooled engine and casting number of 964 underneath the crankcase. The same style was adopted by the company till the production of 2004 GT3 model cars. However, the casting of crankcase was modified in mid 2004 to a 996 casting crankcase.
In this new designed version, the external air cooled remnants were eliminated without changing its internal design. Moreover, Porsche 911 GT3 was offered with manual gearbox with an air cooled 911 heritages. The gearbox was equipped with interchangeable gear ratios to make it a pure racing car.
