Luxury Traveling to Alexandria, Egypt

If any destination captures our attention and allows us to let loose with our imaginations, it is Egypt. Each grain of sand in the desert is full of history and culture; each pyramid is a story of a pharaoh, those interred in stone tombs with him, and the society in which they all lived. A trip to Egypt’s temples is a trip back in time.

It can also be a trip with lots of lines! Egypt is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world, and schoolchildren and scores of the Cairo’s 16 million residents flood the area during the school year. Timing your trip may be a little tricky; in terms of temperature, the months of November through March are much more temperate, especially for those from non-desert climes. This is when, however, you will encounter those schoolchildren and the masses. Summer in Cairo can be barely tolerable for those who are used to it; it can be impossible for those from cooler areas of the world. But, you might want to consider a summer trip because the natives will have headed to the beach areas, and crowds thin out dramatically. You won’t have to wait in line, and you can always lounge on a beach or in an air-conditioned hotel or restaurant if the heat ends your day early.

The Great Pyramids of Giza are a must; you will find that these live up to the images you have in your mind. No matter when you go, you will be able to see all of the Great Pyramids from the outside. During any one time, though, three of them will be closed for preservation purposes, so make sure to plan ahead if you had your heart set on a certain tour. Be aware, also, that the number of visitors to a temple may be limited. Khufu’ s Pyramid, for instance, allows only 150 visitors inside per day.

If you’re willing to go a bit beyond the normal temple tour, you can get a little more up close and personal with a pyramid. Dahshur’s Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramid, for example, were precursors to the larger pyramids at Giza, and they are very well preserved. You will be able to tour the inside of these temples and avoid the long lines of nearby Cairo. Exploring inside a real pyramid is like traveling back centuries in time.

Often, we magnify the grandeur of major destinations until they could not possible meet our expectations. Egypt will not only live up to your expectations but capture your imagination anew.
