Luxury Holidays in Spain: Mallorca
Spain is a country with a cosmopolitan mix of cultures with many popular tourist destinations, as well as some hidden gems. There are so many places each with their own draw, from the year-round sunshine of the Canary Islands to the variety that the Balearic Islands offer, Spain has a place to fulfil everyone’s needs. Mallorca has become an increasingly popular and sophisticated destination over recent years with stylish resorts, boutique hotels and many luxury villas. Here’s a guide to some of the most popular and luxurious destinations on the island:
Cala D’Or –
Situated on the south east coast of the island and discovered by wealthy Spaniards, Cala D’Or is one of Mallorca’s most upmarket destinations. What used to be just a small fishing village has developed into a modern and stylish resort whilst still maintaining its local culture.
The centre of the small town is pedestrian only and rife with boutiques, open air bars, cafes and restaurants. There is also the marina that plays home to many luxury boats and large yachts. Spread along its mile of coastline are seven sandy coves meaning you can spend your days beach hopping if you’re not playing golf or relaxing by the pool.
Pollenca –
Under an hour’s drive from the hotels and apartments of Palma is Pollenca, in an unspoilt corner of the island with mountain peaks, hill-top villages, beautiful seascapes and perfect sandy beaches. The town consists of Puerto Pollenca and the medieval town itself.
Puerto Pollenca was another small fishing village and small harbour but now boasts a stunning bay full of yachts and fishing boats and a 1.5 mile long promenade. On one side of the bay are spectacular views of the rugged headlands while on the other side is the famous ‘Pine Walk’, a pretty promenade lined by pine trees. The area has a wide variety of restaurants and cafes as well as some great boutiques and shops.
The town of Pollenca is undeniably beautiful with narrow streets and pastel painted buildings in the centre and Moorish water mills on the outskirts. The town is situated around 4 miles from the coast set in between 2 hills – it provides the peace, tranquillity and culture of a typical small Spanish town. The town centre is built around the market square and here you will find a selection of buzzing bars and restaurants which are particularly lively on Sunday mornings when the market is in full swing.
